             abstract = "Slums are an economic problem that reflect by a physical way 
                         through small constructions, built with inadequate material, 
                         irregularly divided in illegal lots. Frequently these occupied 
                         areas are danger for the families that live there. Urbanization 
                         methods need projects that can be visualized and that measure the 
                         occupied areas and their position. This work drives at produces 
                         maps that exhibition by an easy visualization, the large evolution 
                         of the slums areas of S{\~a}o Jos{\'e} dos Campos - SP, in eight 
                         years. The municipal district had nineteen slums in 1996, and 
                         nowadays it has just seven. This work used GIS (Geographic 
                         Information System), techniques vectorizing points and areas on an 
                         orthophoto, and GPS (Global Positioning System), where points were 
                         attached in existents slums and through geographic coordinates, it 
                         was possible georeference them.",
